I do have some ideas, and I'm excited to share them with her. Here are just six from my list (in no particular order):
1. Musee d'Orsay
...The only museum I can spend hours in and not feel as though I've been carrying a sack of rice on my shoulders while simultaneously being tortured (I'm not a big fan of museums). Here, you'll find beautiful artwork in all different mediums, housed in a building that's a work of art itself.
2. Versailles
...Mostly because every time I go there, I just really wish I could rent it out for a day for the most amazing, epic, historically-themed party that ever was. Oh yes, and we will eat cake.
3. Any Bakery
...I get at least one "pain au chocolat" (chocolate-filled croissant) a day when I'm in France. In other words, I gain a lot of weight when I'm in France.
4. Anywhere that Sells Cheese and/or Wine and/or Crepes and/or Quiche and/or Any Other Kind of Delicious French Food/Drink
...Because eating and drinking are my two favorite things to do in Paris, especially if I can do them both at the same time.
5. Sacre Coeur
...I like the church itself, and the view of the city is pretty awesome, but climbing up and down the stairs is a great pound-shedding exercise. Do it a few times to work off #3 and #4.
6. People Watching
...As in all cities, big and small, my favorite thing to do is people-watch. People are so fascinating, and French people are so well dressed.
But as great as these as these suggestions may or may not be, I also know that I've got plenty of friends who know the city a lot better than I do.
So, readers! Please think back on your time in Paris and share with me: what are your top-five or top-ten Things to Do in the City of Light?
For me, taking a day trip to Giverny was worth every minute. But Monet is my favorite artist, so that makes perfect sense. A quick train and then a walk or bus to the house and gardens. Then soak up the scenes that were Monet's favorite subjects.
ReplyDeleteIF they like museums more than you do, Beckah, I highly recommend the museum pass. There's a separate entrance for pass-holders and there's no line. It is SO worth it. L'Orangerie is a sweet little museum that has Monet's water lilies - like surround sound for the eyes. http://www.musee-orangerie.fr/
Day trip to Mont St Michel in Normandy was my absolute favorite excursion of my Paris trip. We also spent a lot of time just popping in and out of little boutiques-- not buying, just experiencing. Très chic.
